Ayesha Jalal is a distinguished Pakistani-American historian and the Mary Richardson Professor of History at Tufts University. She is the author of groundbreaking works including The Sole Spokesman, about Mohammad Ali Jinnah and the creation of Pakistan, and Self and Sovereignty. Her scholarship has fundamentally shaped academic understanding of South Asian history and the partition of the subcontinent. She received the Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 2009 for her outstanding contributions to historical research.
