Biography

Dr. Ayub Khan Ommaya was a pioneering neurosurgeon who trained at leading institutions including Oxford and Yale, and spent much of his career at the National Institutes of Health in the United States. His most famous invention, the Ommaya reservoir, is a device that allows the delivery of drugs directly into the cerebrospinal fluid, revolutionising the treatment of brain tumours and meningitis. Honoured with the Sitara-e-Imtiaz in 1981, he is remembered as one of Pakistan's greatest medical minds.
